Needless to say, I’m ridiculously fortunate.

I proposed this weekend and the M3 was a part of it, if I ever needed a reason to convince my fi ancee we need to keep it around.

Assuming that is your property to the fence, where is your sidebyside? :)

Haha - I think I told you, but this guy was obsessed. Full SSV badging, Holden wheel center caps, airbag ($$$), carpet mats, and trunk mat.
Only things with the b
owtie are the keys and the infotainment.

Awesome - happy for you two! I assume a detailed post is coming.
Seriously, it gives
me great joy to read this, even though I knew it was coming
. I remember how down you were a few years ago, so seeing you with a good job again and starting a new life with your girl is so great. All the best to you two.

No $$$ SxS, but I do have an off-road go-kart “for the kids”. =)

That is awesome! I have been scouring our local CL for an old sears “Green Machine” or similar for the munchkin and I. Nothing good yet, we also don’t have a ton of space.

That’d be fun! Next thing I’d like to get is a slow and light
dirt bike (maybe electric)
that I could ride, but that my
older kids could learn on and
have some fun on.

I’m sure I’d have no trouble living with that combo

I’d do it too, but then I checked the prices on that guys “Holden Parts in The USA Site”...

Arguably the 2 vehicles with the highest resale value. One will be a collector one day (if not already) and the other will still be worth $20k in 20 years lol

The SS really is the perfect car for me right now, as a dad with 3 growing kids.
Manual, RWD, good power, good handling, supple ride and plenty of room for the family and their gear. Just sad that such a car isn’t available to purchase new any more!

We share the same truck, car is different t hough as I rock a Cayman. Also, wife’ s 2019 MX5 RF.

Something like that ?
![]() 10/26/2020 at 10:02 |

I hope so! I drive about 15k miles a year, and should be splitting the mileage pretty evenly between these two. Hopefully that will keep the total miles low enough to maintain value for a future buyer (if I ever decide to sell).
My kids will eventually drive the truck, and I’d be happy to keep it in the family for 15-20 years. Will be interesting to see
if I ever give up the SS - I had my M3 for 8 years and sold it to my brother with first right of refusal if he ever decides to sell it. Special cars - they truly don’t make them like this anymore...

Yeah, it’s crazy. Glad he took care of it for me (and I’ve got all the original parts, too).

Very nice! Would love to add a Cayman or an ND Miata once the kids are older.
Mrs. addiction is enjoying her Telluride. I don’t see us buying another car for at least 5 years (if not 8)! LOL

Yeah, some people change it. Maybe I’ll do it in a few years when I get a tune. Happy to run with the OEM setup for a while.

I regret selling my Taco, b ut life moves on.

C o-worker drives one, the car is going on four years old and he’s considering selling it. I asked him what he would buy as a replacement, he said “pick up truck”. I reminded him he lives in a suburb with his girlfriend , he would be far better off keeping h is car. We’ll see what he decides to do.

Guess I should post soon!
Yeah, ironically it was three years to the day after I got offered a job to go back to the oilfield. Makes me very happy I didn’t take it.

I considered it for a second when Carvana would’ve given me what I paid for it, but couldn’t think of what I’d get in its place.
I got the seat risers for the front of my seat (I have a 34" inseam) - has made a big difference. I clearly needed more thigh support.

.

Does he just have the itch for something different? Maybe he wants to sell before the miles get too
high to get a good
sale price.
I’m
assuming
his is an automatic.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:16 |

Three pedals, as God intended! I believe the car has ~ 50k miles on it. His reasoning is we receive a monthly stipen d for our cars ($370/month) , which drops considerably once the car hits the four year mark. I told him to keep the car and get a truck, he doesn’t want to deal with the cost and hassle of maintaining two vehicles .
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:17 |

Congrats! There is already going to be so much sentimental value around it but I like your thinking.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:21 |

Indeed, an enviable pairing. Wait, is the Taco a manual? Because I’ve heard some pretty negative things about the gearing on those and I haven’t seen one in person with a stick.
Ah yes, and the Holden rolet is looking mighty fine today!
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:28 |
|
Good for him! Prices for these are a bit stupid right now , so I can understand why he’d sell it while it still has relatively low miles, I guess.
But yeah, if he really
loves the car, just buy a cheap commuter car to keep that stipend money coming, I guess. That’s $17,760 over 4 years. Get a Corolla (or Tacoma)
and sell it after 4 years for a healthy “profit”.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:32 |
|
That was my advice, there’s really nothing comparable on the market and he’ll regret selling it. I certainly feel that way about the Cayman, which is why I bought the Taco. Mind you I’m a hard core enthusiast who has always had multiple vehicles.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:37 |

Yes, it is. Reverse is too tall, 1st is very short (makes sense for a truck)
, and 6th is probably too short for a efficiency gear (we have 80 mph speed limits)
. Other gears are great. I’m going to upsize tires a bit, so that will help a little in first and 6th, and I’ll probably get a tune fairly soon as well
. This will be the vehicle my kids learn to drive on.
I test drove an automatic and it was hunting for gears like crazy during my short test drive - knew I couldn’t live with that.
Thanks! Never thought I’d own a red car (flashy)
, but the red with black looks really good to me.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:45 |

I like red cars too but I wasn’t trying to get one when I ended up with my Cruze. Though the runner up was also green so clearly I was subconsciously drawn to fun colors before I realized it. The colors are gooooooood!
Nice! I know these technically are available with a manual but I just haven’t seen one. Supposedly they fixed the automatic finally after so many complaints. So are you pretty happy with how it’s geared? Seems like a tall reverse is a weird thing to be annoying so it must be pretty tall. Gonna be even taller when the bigger tires come.
That is one nicely balanced two car garage right there.

I got on the two vehicle train in 2014 when I bought an old beater ‘03 Pathfinder 4x4 . Good vehicle, perfect for how I used it, but ended up with a main seal leak that I wasn’t going to pay to replace. In hindsight, maybe I should’ve just paid to put in a gravel pad to park it on, but I bought the Tacoma in ‘18 and sold the Pathfinder to my brother, and now I’ve just sold the M3 I had for 8 years to an other brother and got the SS.
I’m the family used car salesman: my sister’s still driving Mrs. addiction’s 2008 CX-9, and we just sold her ‘14 MDX to my nephew & his wife
. =)

Love the dark green that you could get on the SS!
I had to special order mine. Hardly any on lots, for sure. I think the ‘20 auto’s
programming is better. I don’t have an issue driving mine at all, except occasionally thinking I’ve got another gear once I’m at cruising speed on the highway - LOL.
Reverse can be
annoying, but I don’t have a boat and don’t pull a trailer very often, so it’s not a big deal. Just feels like I’m slipping the clutch more than I should when backing out of the garage
in the morning.
Thanks! I’m really happy with these two.
